Themes

Pick a built-in theme for light and dark, or bring the one you use in VS Code.

Sesh uses VS Code color themes. The theme colors code, diffs and terminals, and, if you like, the chat, the sidebar and the controls. You pick one theme for light mode and one for dark.

Pick a theme

  1. Open Settings › Theme.
  2. Choose Appearance: System, Light or Dark.
  3. Choose a Light theme and a Dark theme. The one in use follows the appearance.

The Preview shows the result as you go.

Import your VS Code theme

  1. Find the theme’s .json file. VS Code themes live in the extension’s folder, under themes.
  2. In Settings › Theme, click Import VS Code Theme… and pick the file.

It becomes your light or dark theme, whichever it was made for. Files with comments are fine. On iPhone and iPad, pick the file from Files.

How far the theme goes

Setting What it does Default
Use the theme’s backgrounds The chat, Changes and the sidebar take the theme’s colors On
Use the theme’s accent color Buttons and controls use the theme’s accent instead of the system’s Off
Match the Dock icon to the theme Recolors Sesh’s Dock icon while it runs. Mac only. On

Windows keep the standard macOS look either way.

On your other devices

Your appearance, themes and these settings follow you over iCloud, including imported themes you’ve chosen.

Good to know

  • An imported theme over 256 KB, or one you haven’t chosen for light or dark, stays on the device you imported it on.
  • Ghostty and iTerm color schemes can’t be imported yet.
