Dev servers

Open the server a session started, even when it's running on another machine.

When the agent, or you in the session’s terminal, starts a server like npm run dev, Sesh notices. A globe button appears in the session’s toolbar.

Open it

Click the globe. It opens the server where Settings › Dev Servers says:

  • Browser: your default browser. The default on the Mac.
  • Sesh: inside Sesh, in place of the chat. The default on iPhone and iPad.

The globe’s menu lists every server the session is running, each with Open in Browser and Open in Sesh. You can also press ⌘K and choose Open localhost:3000.

When the page is open in Sesh, the toolbar has Reload (⌘R), Open in Browser and a button to close it and go back to the chat.

Servers on other machines

A server on another machine opens just like a local one. Sesh forwards it to the same port on this device when that port is free, so the addresses the server prints still work. Hot reload, cookies and websockets keep working.

The forward stops when the server stops.

Good to know

  • On iPhone and iPad, a forwarded server only answers while Sesh is in front. That’s why it opens in Sesh by default there.
  • Sesh finds servers by the folder they run in, so a server started outside the session’s folder won’t show.
